I don’t know about you guys, but winter wreaks havoc with my skin. It seems to make the dry bits super sensitive and the oily bits super shiny…neither of which are my ideal beauty look for the new season. Luckily, Kiehl’s got in touch to see if I wanted to come and visit them in their new space in John Lewis Cribbs Causeway for a skin consultation – I was sat at their marble countertop before you could say the word ‘moisturiser’.
I’ve always admired Kiehl’s from afar in the past, being intrigued by their medicinal-looking bottles and hearing amazing things about their moisturisation capabilities, so I was so excited to hear what they’re all about and get to try out some of their mythic lotions and potions. After a quick wander around the booth, eyeing up products that I fancied testing, Angie sat me down and first of all did patch tests on my forehead and cheeks to see what kind of skin we were dealing with. Mine came back on the normal to dry spectrum, with some oily patches…a bit of everything really. Luckily, Kiehl’s are all set up for that, so we talked through some of the options that would be good for me.
It was so lovely having a bit of a mini facial whilst learning about what each product would do for my skin. One of the things I’ve always loved about Kiehl’s is that they don’t skimp on the detail – each bottle explains in-depth on the front exactly what its purpose is and how it does this. And this even ran through into the consultation! Angie was so knowledgeable about everything and anything to do with the products, from the ingredients in them to why they’d been invented. And, let me tell you, some of them have been around for a long time, still using the natural ingredients that inspired them in the first place.
We cleansed and toned my face to begin with, using their Centalla Skin-Calming Facial Cleanser and Ultra Facial Toner, which were super soft on my slightly irritable winter skin. Then we moved on to moisturising, which was where I fell totally in love. At night I adore to feel that I’m feeding my skin, giving it time to repair overnight so I can wake up feeling all glowy and refreshed, and their moisturising combos did just that – I felt as though I’d just had a solid eight hours. I was lucky enough to bring three products home with me, so keep you eyes peeled for my full review next week!
We finished up by testing out some of the Kiehl’s hero products; the ones that you instantly associate with the brand. Creme de corps was a personal fave for me, as well as the lip balm – the patch of my arm where I’d applied the body lotion was baby-soft for days afterwards, and the lip balm felt like it actually nourished my lips, rather than just sitting on top of them.
I left the counter with my goodies feeling lighter and brighter than I had in a long time. This winter has really been a toughie, but my skin is finally on the road to repair, and all it took was half an hour with Angie at Kiehl’s. I’d highly recommend swinging by next time you’re at The Mall – a spot of beauty therapy goes perfectly with retail therapy!
