Weekends sans plans might be depressing to some, but as soon as I realise I’ve got a weekend to myself, I secretly grin with delight. There’s nothing better than a rainy autumn Saturday with no-one to please other than myself, leaving plenty of time to go and do all the things I’ve been meaning to do! Last weekend, I made the most of some me-time to explore Old Market, heading to brand new shop and bar, To The Moon.
Equal parts booze and fashion, To The Moon is slap bang in the middle of Midland Road, just five minutes away from Cabot Circus. I saw a glimpse of vintage prints through the window that I just had to check out, so I headed straight into the shop. The inside is lovely – all wooden floors, velvet sofas and exposed bulbs, which, as owner Gemma explained, can also double up as an event space when shopping hours are over.
The shop is perfectly suited to Bristol’s local shopping scene. As well as the gorgeous vintage clothing I’d spied outside, there are rails of clothing and tables of accessories and jewellery by some of our fair city’s best designers and makers. I couldn’t get enough of the beautiful knitwear on offer – I think my winter wardrobe could do with a bit of a Bristol update!
Once I’d finished making my fashion wishlist, I stepped through to the bar, which is set to become the next most photogenic venue in the city. Graffiti-style wall murals, mirrored gallery walls and vintage leather sofas settle it nicely into Bristol’s independent nightlife offering, which is also reflected in the locally-sourced drinks on offer and the relaxed vibe.
With pop-ups, art exhibitions and live music planned for the upcoming months, To The Moon is definitely set to become the best new place to see and be seen in Bristol. I’ve got my eye on their Space Pirate rum events!
