LCM AW16: Thomas Pink

Walking up to the Institute of Contemporary Arts for the Thomas Pink AW16 presentation, it was impossible not to notice that the entrance was illuminated in hot pink. After entering the building and climbing a flight of stairs, there could have been no doubt in anyone’s mind who the party was for – typography spilled over walls and floors, touting the simple but effective tagline ‘Any colour, as long as it’s Pink’.

Gin & tonic in hand, we moved through two rooms of LCM goers, relaxing and socialising after a long day of shows, and into a third room, where a line of well-dressed men relaxed against coloured panels in the latest collection from Thomas Pink.

Arranged by occasion, the collection formed the perfect capsule wardrobe. Silk shirts, pleated trousers and velvet jackets for the evening, jumpers, shirts and corduroy trousers for the day and beautifully made suits for work, topped off with an upturned jacket collar and a long scarf. Even the shoes had been adapted to this formula, being one of velvet slippers, suede brogues or smart patent loafers.

The designs themselves were decidedly not pink (probably a relief to most); instead they were based on colour blocks of the five key hues of the season: cranberry, navy, forest green, mustard and turquoise.

Unlike many presentations, the models were quite at ease, chatting with each other and interacting with us as we moved through the party, adding to the relaxed, friendly ambiance. Judging by the clamour in all three rooms, the event was certainly something everyone wanted to be invited to, and this sentiment is infused into the collection. The Thomas Pink wardrobe is perfect for any occasion that might crop up during the AW16 season, being versatile, easy to wear and endlessly chic.
